Hey folks! I just had the pleasure of chatting with Burt Lum and the ByteMarks Cafe show on Hawaii Public Radio about my work building the Code for America Community Fellowship. It was a blast! Shoutout to our amazing fellows, Ben Trevino and Stephanie Chang, for their fantastic efforts in sustainable community building through the #SuMoLab at the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation. Keep crushing it, you two!

During the interview, we talked about all sorts of cool stuff, like different user research topics and methods, how to evaluate user feedback effectively, and the importance of understanding user needs. We even got into the nitty-gritty of the #SuMoLab’s work to promote sustainability through collective learning. It was absolutely amazing!

The HART Sustainable Mobility Lab, or #SuMoLab, is a community-oriented effort to learn how to be sustainable and resilient through the critical exploration of Honolulu’s transportation and mobility system as they build out their high-speed rail project.

Moving forward, I’m super excited to keep building on the successes of the Fellowship and the #SuMoLab. I think that collective learning and sustainability are key components of building strong communities for the future, and I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together.

By the way, if you’re interested in connecting with like-minded individuals and organizations, talking about sustainable community building, or just want to share some cool ideas, hit me up! I’m always down for a good chat.

I really appreciate the folks of Honolulu being such gracious hosts and helping me to understand indigenous Hawaiian perspectives on land use with respect to mass transit infrastructure. Mahalo! Thanks for reading. This is only the beginning… let’s keep this journey rolling!
